Volunteer Services
There are no government programs to help many low-income and elderly
homeowners, or persons with disabilities, to purchase, maintain or
repair their homes. That is why we created a team of more
than 500 volunteers comprised of individuals such as yourself. More
than thirty are highly skilled in the construction trades.
Our volunteers help more than 150 households each year remain in
their homes by making health, safety, accessibility, and
other necessary repairs to taxpaying homeowners who do not qualify
for a government program. These improvements may include installing
wheelchair ramps, backyard lighting, window and door locks, peepholes,
and household security systems. Our volunteers may also perform household
maintenance and make exterior upgrades, such as painting, weeding,
installing railings, and making plumbing and electrical repairs.
Although the number of households we serve has doubled over the past three years, so
has our waiting list. Our volunteers depend on tax-deductible cash contributions, and
donated supplies and materials. If you would like to donate, please click
here.
The ElderHomes Volunteer Services Department conducts bi-monthly evening orientation sessions for new volunteers. Check this website for future dates. The next volunteer orientation is scheduled for Monday, September 8 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. The orientations will be held at our office, 88 Carnation Street, Richmond, 23225. There is absolutely no obligation to volunteer after participating in the orientation. If you are interested in attending, please confirm in advance by calling Wayne Swatlowski, 233-2827 ext 237
